ABOUT THE ROLE

Gap International, a global management consulting firm based in the Philadelphia area, is seeking a Senior Linguist with a PhD and a strong record of research in linguistics to join our team. We are particularly interested in individuals who have explored Cognitive Linguistics, the intersection of Semantics and Pragmatics, and areas related to Theory of Mind. In this role, you will build on your academic expertise to advance our proprietary linguistic methodology and apply it to real-world business contexts. By bridging deep theoretical insights with business application, you will help transform how leaders and organizations think, communicate, and perform. Your contributions will extend beyond research, influencing the development of innovative products, consulting practices, and thought leadership that fuel our clients' sustainable growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct original research in cognitive linguistics, semantics, pragmatics, and related fields to expand Gap International's intellectual property.
  • Apply linguistic theory to business contexts, developing insights that directly impact client performance.
  • Publish research and thought leadership pieces in top journals and present at conferences to strengthen Gap International's academic and industry presence.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to translate complex linguistic concepts into practical consulting methodologies.
  • Contribute to the design of new diagnostic tools and products based on linguistic insights.
  • Serve as a thought partner to senior leaders, internally and with clients, on the role of language in performance and transformation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Linguistics from a leading academic institution (with emphasis in Cognitive Linguistics, Semantics/Pragmatics, or related fields).
  • Demonstrated research excellence, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations.
  • Strong interest in Theory of Mind and the role of language in cognition and meaning-making.
  • Ability to translate theoretical linguistic insights into practical applications.
  • Client-facing experience preferred.
  • Potential travel domestically and/or internationally.
  • Current resident or able to relocate to Philadelphia area.

GAP INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATES

  • Purposeful people at work impacting companies around the world.
  • People who thrive in a learning environment and enjoy learning, growing, and performing at their best; energized to continually push beyond their comfort zone.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; eager to take on things they don't know how to do.
  • Curious and flexible when it comes to their own growth and development, as well as receptive to coaching and feedback to maximize their potential.
  • Willing to communicate and contribute thoughts, insights and new ideas to senior leaders both internally and externally.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A role with significant impact and visibility within the company.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development in a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • A dynamic and inclusive company culture.
