Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
The Supervisory Dental Officer is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations, personnel management, and quality assurance of dental services within the organization. This position ensures the delivery of safe, effective, and culturally competent oral health care, while also guiding the professional development of dental staff and contributing to strategic planning and policy development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide leadership and supervision to dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants.
· Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA, CDC, AAAHC).
· Review and approve treatment plans for complex cases.
· Monitor clinical performance and patient outcomes.
· Participate in the development and implementation of dental policies and procedures.
· Assist in budget planning, procurement of dental supplies/equipment, and resource allocation.
· Coordinate staffing schedules and manage leave requests to ensure adequate coverage.
· Prepare reports on clinic performance, productivity, and compliance.
· Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and mentorship.
· Facilitate continuing education and training opportunities.
· Participate in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of dental personnel.
· Address personnel issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.
· Lead quality assurance initiatives and participate in audits and inspections.
· Ensure compliance with federal, state, tribal, and local regulations.
· Promote culturally appropriate care and community engagement.
· Collaborate with other departments to integrate oral health into broader health initiatives.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
· Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited institution.
· Active and unrestricted dental license.
· Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role.
· CPR/BLS certification required.
POSITION PREFERENCES
· Experience in tribal health, Indian Health Service (IHS), or community health settings.
· Board certification or advanced training in a dental specialty.
· Fluent in the Keres language.
